This 3 hour guided tour of Stone Town can be conducted in the morning or afternoon. You will learn about the fascinating history of Zanzibar's ancient Stone Town. Over the years Zanzibar has been influenced by traders and invaders from India, China, Arabia, Persia, Phoenicia, Assyria, Portugal, Egypt, the Netherlands and Britain. Cultures have combined with typical African traditions to create a rich, colourful and cosmopolitan heritage.
Arab traditions predominate today, both in urban design and architecture with large Arab houses built with a central courtyard dating from the 19th century. Your guide will reveal the secrets of the narrow maze of streets and alleyways in Stone Town, focusing on the buildings of particular historical and architectural interest.
